Under The Sea! Little Mermaid Baby Shower Tips
For mothers-to-be that love to be “under the sea,” a Little Mermaid baby shower theme just may be perfect.
Invitations
Children’s Little Mermaid baby shower invitations may be used to save time, but there are other ideas that require a bit more creativity. For example, a seashell may be written on inside with permanent black marker detailing the party information. Another option is to create an under-the-sea scene on a blank white card using a blue wash. Add fish stickers or use foam stickers to add to the scene. To complete the look, spread some school glue on the bottom of the picture and sprinkle with sand and glitter. Once dry, record all the necessary party information inside and prepare for sending.
Bunch different colors of balloons, in addition to clear balloons, in different areas of the room to create the look of bubbles. Also, a great mood setter is to switch out some of the light bulbs to blue and green to create an under-the-sea mood. Hang strips of crepe paper from the ceiling in shades of blue and green to simulate seaweed. An ideal addition is a bubble blower in one corner of the room. An easy and quick centerpiece is a regular fish bowl. Add colorful aquarium pebbles on the bottom, water, and fake fish (NOT real fish) and you have your centerpieces ready! In addition, add sequins, chocolate coins, and girls’ “jeweled” jewelry to the center of tables. For easy finger snacks, add containers with goldfish crackers and Swedish Fish to all of the tables.
Games and Activities
A natural movie choice for a lengthy baby shower is a viewing of the Little Mermaid. With that in mind, a nautical version of “Name That Tune” may be played. For parties with crafty attendees, small treasure boxes that have already been painted can be decorated during the party. At the end of the party, the mom-to-be can judge them and pick her favorite.
Prizes and Favors
Favors can include bags of chocolate coins as well as the girls’ jewelry on the tables. For parties in which treasure boxes were painted, these naturally should go home with the guests. Other favors and prizes can include ocean-scented candles, lotions, and perfumes.
Food
Though the natural inclination could be to serve fish, this should be avoided as it may trigger nausea in the mom-to-be. Instead, consider serving spinach and noodles with a creamy sauce (such as seafood, alfredo, etc.). In addition, a fresh salad may be served with submarine sandwiches. For dessert, sand dollar biscuits or sand dollar cookies may be offered. An under-the-sea themed cake with Jerry’s Phish Food Ice Cream on the side is the perfect ending to a meal with a Little Mermaid baby shower theme. Throughout the party guests can snack on goldfish crackers and Swedish Fish available at the tables. A large bowl of blue punch with toy fish in it provides a finishing touch to the baby shower food table.
Anyone looking to plan a baby shower should consider a Little Mermaid baby shower theme. Though it initially may seem too immature for a baby shower, this is an excellent theme for any expecting mothers that love the ocean.
